Position Overview
As Head of Nature-based Research and Monitoring, you will report to the Chief Sustainability Officer, and you will work closely and cross-functionally across the entire organization. As the leader responsible for the quality and integrity of the nature-based credits in our growing portfolio, you will conduct diligence on new project and investment opportunities and you will create and implement a system for ongoing monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) for the projects and credits already in the portfolio. As we grow, you will build out and manage the nature-based MRV team.
The ideal candidate has substantial technical expertise in forest/ agriculture, soil science, and carbon cycling, statistics, and satellite remote sensing. Experience with certification processes and methodologies is highly preferred, as is work experience in the carbon markets.
Responsibilities
- Work with data providers and internal stakeholders to create systems for biophysical monitoring for each of our nature-based project types
- Implement ongoing monitoring to ensure that our credits are delivering the desired impact in terms of carbon emissions reduction and carbon storage, as well as social benefits
- Make recommendations for changing portfolio composition and adjusting buffers in response to new information
- Assist Rubicon Carbon Capital with prioritization of nature-based credit types for investment diligence, based on methodology and quality parameters
- Conduct pre-investment diligence on nature-based projects and methodologies to inform opportunities being considered by Rubicon Carbon Capital
- Together with partners, scope and implement a system for unbiased monitoring of project impact via social benefits sharing
Experience
- 7+ years of technical/ work experience in forest/ agriculture, soil science, and/ or nature-based carbon cycling
- Familiarity with satellite remote sensing and its application in carbon credit development and evaluation
- Strongly desired: expertise in credit methodologies and certification processes for nature-based carbon credits
- Curious and analytical mindset
- Solid knowledge of analytics and research methodologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Compensation
The national market salary range for this role is $120,000 to $185,000. Our approach to compensation consists of starting with market data +/- relevant experience. We take a holistic 'Total Rewards' approach to compensation (cash + long term incentive + excellent benefits package).
